Ok, I do like Kylie’s lip kit. I have the True Brown K. How, you ask?! I added it my online shopping cart the actual second that they first went on sale. I got the brown shade, because I knew Kylie’s signature lighter shades (Candy K & Dolce K) would sell out in milliseconds. I used to buy Jonas Brothers tickets on Ticketmaster. I know how to snag shit that’s in high demand.
The product is good and since you’re getting a matte liquid lipstick and a smooth, high quality lip pencil, the price of $29 is rather reasonable as well. The highly pigmented formula rocks and stays on for a long time. The downside of this super matte consistency is that you get a lip demarkation line
quickly and with this deep shade, it can make you look really stupid if you’re not looking in a mirror and touching it up often. Correcting this demarkation and piling the thick product on in layers throughout the day can also result in pilling and flaking.
Sidenote, I’m kind of getting over Kylie. I mean how many of the same self-obsessed Snapchats and Instagrams can we see?!
This all being said, I’d still love to get some more Kylie shades…I just hate having to be online at a certain time and go through the whole frenzy of ordering it…ESPECIALLY since I’ve discovered a product that’s practically the same thing and can be bought at Sephora.
Matte liquid lipsticks are all the rage now thanks to Kylie, but before her line of products, Kat Von D had hers. It glides on like a gloss, but dries as a matte, just like Jenner’s. The pigment is also great and stays on well. Not 24 hours, like it advertises, but a couple of hours without eating for sure! I find this formula doesn’t try your lips out as much as Kylie’s, so you don’t have to deal with the demarkation and pilling to the same extent. In fact, it doesn’t really get flakey at all!
Kat Von D’s Everlasting Liquid Lipstick comes in 28 shades and you can normally find a tube of each shade at Sephora for $20. I suggest using the Sephora product locator (“Find in Store”) before you head out the door to make sure your store has it in stock. You can also order it directly from the site. I have the Lolita II shade and the Bow ‘N Arrow shade. I prefer neutrals.
