Not So Crazy #LipChallenge

I’m no stranger to lip injections. While I’ve never gotten them, I’ve watched my sister pump her lips since she was 20 and recently my best friend has been Juvederm-ing too. There are two types of people: Hippy, dippy- everyone’s-naturally-beautiful people and do-what-you-want-to-do-to-feel-beautiful people. I belong to team number two. Obviously. My sister, Lauren, looks hotter with lip injections…so does my best friend, Maura…and so does Kylie. So why the hell not plump? Please don’t give me that “it’s a foreign chemical” bullshit.

Kylie has chosen to get plump to the point of exaggeration, so have a lot of the Housewives. Lip injections don’t need to and often don’t look like they do in Hollywood. Our amazing physicians assistant Jennifer Whitman at the Rockledge Med Spa, who plumps Lauren and Maura’s lips, says it’s all about preventing “the shelf.” Ya know, that permanent duck face look in which the lips jut out of the face too far. It’s all about balancing your lips with the rest of your face and your features.

I’m not qualified to explain the science behind it or which filler is best for you (or if it’s even a good idea for you). I simply want to demonstrate how natural and flattering lip injections can be because they often get a bad rap. So here are the before and after shots of the two girls I’m closest to in the world. Neither of them were happy with the size of their upper lip before injections.

I also believe in doing whatever makes you feel beautiful. I am not against procedures like fillers and I don’t rule out ever having one if I start to feel unhappy with my lips.
